Boeing and Norsk e-Fuel have joined forces to establish one of Europe's first industrial-scale power-to-liquid facilities for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The partnership aims to enhance the production and availability of SAF in the Nordics and globally, aligning with the International Civil Aviation Organization's goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Norsk e-Fuel will utilize the power-to-liquid (PtL) process to create e-SAF, which can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from air travel. In Europe, initiatives like RefuelEU SAF set ambitious targets to increase the share of sustainable aviation fuel, including e-SAF, by 2030 and 2050 to align with EU commitments. This collaboration not only focuses on technological advancements but also on guiding policies to ensure the economic viability and long-term competitiveness of the global SAF industry and the aviation sector. By combining Boeing's industry leadership with Norsk e-Fuel's technology expertise, the partnership aims to accelerate SAF production, supporting the aviation industry's transition towards carbon neutrality. Similar initiatives, such as the recent MoU between OMV and Airbus, highlight the industry-wide effort to advance the decarbonisation of aviation through sustainable fuel solutions.
