The Canadian government has initiated a strategic partnership with GHD Group, a global professional services firm, to transition 40,000 federal fleet vehicles to zero-emission as part of the Greening Government Strategy. The collaboration aims to reduce fuel consumption, align emissions with federal targets, and support a circular economy through green procurement. GHD Group's data-driven approach, employing their Zero Emissions Vehicle Optimization (ZEVO) platform, will analyze key data points like vehicle usage, idle times, and fuel consumption to inform decisions on fleet right-sizing and the adoption of zero-emission vehicles. The government's plan includes transitioning SUVs, vans, pickup trucks, dump trucks, and off-road vehicles to zero-emission, with a specific focus on achieving a fully zero-emission, light-duty fleet by 2030. By 2025, all new light-duty fleet vehicle purchases are expected to be zero-emission, encompassing battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Currently, 14.1% of the light-duty fleet consists of green vehicles, with 4.5% being ZEVs and 9.6% hybrid vehicles. Additionally, the government aims for at least 40% of new commercial medium- and heavy-duty vehicle purchases to be ZEVs by 2030, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental goals.
