Cepsa and PreZero Spain have announced a strategic partnership focused on renewable energy and circular economy advancements. PreZero Spain will supply biomethane from its projects to Cepsa, with both companies collaborating on developing biomethane plants. The partnership also includes recovering waste to produce second-generation biofuels, circular chemical products, and decarbonising PreZero's land fleet in Spain and Portugal. Carlos Barrasa, Executive Vice President of Commercial & Clean Energies at Cepsa, expressed excitement about the alliance, highlighting the potential for producing alternative energies like green hydrogen and second-generation biofuels. Gonzalo Cañete, CEO of PreZero in Spain and Portugal, emphasized the need for aligning with circular economy and decarbonisation objectives. The companies are progressing on a biomethane plant in Huelva, set to be one of Spain's largest, capable of heating 20,000 homes and producing green hydrogen and renewable fuels. PreZero, a major biomethane producer in Spain, will provide renewable gas to Cepsa on a preferential basis, aiding in reducing CO2 emissions. Additionally, PreZero will supply organic waste and used cooking oils for biofuel production and explore pyrolysis plants for non-recyclable plastic waste. Cepsa will research solutions to decarbonise PreZero's fleet through biofuels and electric recharging options. Both companies' efforts align with EU initiatives and the SDGs, contributing to decarbonisation and sustainable development goals. Cepsa's Positive Motion strategy aims to produce green molecules like renewable hydrogen, while PreZero is committed to carbon neutrality by 2050 through recycled raw materials and green energy production. This partnership signifies a significant step towards a sustainable and circular economy, driving ambitious decarbonisation targets.
