Chinese scientists have developed a groundbreaking non-nuclear hydrogen bomb that surpasses traditional TNT explosives in potency. The bomb, crafted by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation's 705 Research Institute, can generate a fireball lasting 15 times longer than a TNT blast, with temperatures exceeding 1,800F. Utilizing magnesium hydride to store hydrogen in a solid form, China has established a factory capable of producing 150 tonnes of this substance per year using a safer and more cost-effective method. The bomb operates like a blowtorch, creating a slower but hotter and more sustained impact, making it suitable for incinerating targets such as vehicles and drones. By detonating the weapon with a starter explosive, the material rapidly decomposes, releasing hydrogen gas that ignites into a high-temperature fireball. The research, published in the Journal of Projectiles, Rockets, Missiles, and Guidance, envisions a future where this hydrogen bomb can fry electronics, melt military equipment, and deny access to specific areas, while avoiding the constraints of nuclear treaties, providing diverse possibilities for further development in thermal weapons.
