China is making significant strides in the advancement of hydrogen technology, as showcased at the China International Hydrogen Congress 2025 in Beijing. The event highlighted innovative hydrogen applications, including an unmanned hydrogen-electric hybrid mining truck operating in harsh conditions, reducing carbon emissions. The country's National Energy Administration official, Bian Guangqi, emphasized China's rapid progress in the hydrogen energy sector, with plans to achieve substantial hydrogen production from renewable sources by 2025 and promote widespread adoption by 2030. Various provincial-level governments in China are actively supporting hydrogen development, with projects like a sea-based hydrogen production facility in Yantai and the deployment of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in major cities such as Shanghai and Beijing. Despite facing challenges like high costs and technological barriers, China is committed to overcoming these obstacles to establish a thriving hydrogen industry ecosystem. The establishment of the China Hydrogen Alliance in 2018, comprising over 300 members across 26 regions, demonstrates the country's dedication to hydrogen technology advancement. While acknowledging the long road ahead, Chinese experts believe that the country's energy law and future Five-Year Plans will set clear industry goals, foster technological innovation, and enhance global collaboration to drive the growth of the hydrogen sector. China's strong focus on hydrogen technology signals a positive outlook for the industry's role in achieving sustainable and low-carbon energy solutions.
