In 2024, the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) showcased multiple achievements in advancing sustainable energy solutions. EERE's investments resulted in the development of innovative technologies, including a high-efficiency combined heat and power device running on zero-carbon fuels like hydrogen. Other accomplishments included successful geothermal enhancements, grid inertia monitoring systems, and advancements in wireless EV charging and battery recycling. Additionally, sustainable aviation fuel production saw a significant increase, creating new jobs and reducing carbon emissions in the aviation industry. The launch of the first hybrid diesel-electric research vessel and the validation of a state-of-the-art hydrogen fueler further exemplified EERE's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
