Emirates Transport, the prominent transport provider in the UAE, has announced a partnership with Al Ghurair Motors to pilot test hydrogen and electric commercial vehicles. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to explore and promote alternative-fuel commercial vehicles, assessing their feasibility and executing pilot projects. This collaboration signifies a major step towards integrating hydrogen technology into Emirates Transport's national fleet, consisting of over 32,000 vehicles. With a focus on sustainability, the initiative supports the UAE's objective of having half of all vehicles electric by 2050 and reaching net-zero emissions by the same year. Under the MoU, technical training will be provided to Emirates Transport staff by Al Ghurair Motors to operate and maintain the new vehicles effectively. The partnership also includes a commitment to developing infrastructure such as EV charging and hydrogen fueling technology to support the pilot projects and future scalability. Emirates Transport's Chief Transport and Lease Officer, Dominic Hagerty, highlighted the partnership's alignment with governmental sustainability goals and its contribution to policy development and national infrastructure advancements. Al Ghurair Motors' CEO, Oscar Rivoli, emphasized the importance of sustainable commercial vehicles in achieving the UAE's net-zero goals and the need for collaboration to ensure successful implementation of new technologies and infrastructure. This collaboration not only focuses on environmental responsibility but also aims to enhance customer experience, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to economic diversification and job creation.
