Entergy Texas has submitted an application to the Public Utility Commission of Texas for the approval of two natural gas-fired power plants named Legend and Lone Star. The aim is to address the increasing energy demands in Southeast Texas due to economic and population growth. The Legend Power Station, a 754 MW facility in Port Arthur, will feature carbon capture technology and a hydrogen-capable combustion turbine. On the other hand, the 453 MW Lone Star Power Station near Cleveland will also have a hydrogen-capable combustion turbine. These projects are part of Entergy Texas' Southeast Texas Energy Plan to add 1,600 MW of generation capacity by 2028 along with grid-hardening initiatives. Governor Greg Abbott has expressed support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of reliable power for business growth. The proposal is focused on enhancing grid reliability, supporting economic development, and incorporating sustainable energy solutions for the future.
