Fabrum, a New Zealand company, has collaborated with Christchurch Airport to establish a state-of-the-art hydrogen testing facility within the airport's renewable energy precinct, Kowhai Park. This advanced liquid hydrogen test site focuses on technologies like liquefiers and gas management systems. The partnership aims to facilitate the development of green hydrogen aviation technologies to drive decarbonisation efforts. The consortium, including industry leaders such as Airbus and Air New Zealand, plans to assess the hydrogen supply chain and local aviation market needs to achieve zero-emission aviation in New Zealand by 2050. Fabrum's executive chair highlighted the importance of having liquid hydrogen aviation fuel on-site to advance towards zero-emissions operations. The project received support from an Arohia Trailblazer Innovation Grant, signifying its global potential and positive contribution to New Zealand's innovation ecosystem.
