Wales and West Utilities have announced plans to upgrade gas pipes in Truro, Cornwall, by replacing aging metal pipes with durable plastic ones. The upgrade works in the Kenwyn St area are set to begin in January and are expected to be completed by May 2025, subject to any engineering challenges. The utility company aims to enhance the safety and reliability of the gas network, ensuring a consistent supply to households and businesses in the region. Additionally, the project aligns with sustainability goals as the new plastic pipes are designed to accommodate hydrogen and biomethane, potential green energy alternatives. Pipe upgrade manager Abby Smith emphasized the importance of the gas network in daily life and highlighted the significance of the upgrades for a sustainable future.
