GH EnA and Utility Partner to Produce Carbon-Negative Hydrogen in South Korea
Key Ideas
  • GH EnA and Utility have signed a commercial agreement to implement H2Gen projects in South Korea to produce clean, carbon-negative hydrogen from biogas.
  • The partnership aims to support South Korea's Hydrogen Economy Roadmap, emphasizing biogas and hydrogen as key energy sources for achieving carbon neutrality.
  • Initial projects will focus on producing hydrogen to power heavy-duty vehicles, buses, and passenger vehicles, contributing to decarbonization efforts in the mobility market.
  • H2Gen reactors utilize Utility's eXERO gas production technology, enabling the production of hydrogen from off-gases like biogas, revolutionizing the economics of clean hydrogen production.
Utility, a company specializing in off-gas-to-value solutions, has partnered with GH EnA, an engineering and architecture firm in South Korea, to implement H2Gen projects aimed at producing clean carbon-negative hydrogen using biogas. This partnership aligns with South Korea's Hydrogen Economy Roadmap, which prioritizes biogas and hydrogen to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels. GH EnA, known for its expertise in hydrogen fuel cells and biogas power generation, will lead project development in collaboration with Utility. The projects will deploy H2Gen hydrogen plants in various locations in South Korea, including Chuncheon, Taebaek, Hongcheon, Sokcho, Yangyang, Goseong, and Inje. The produced hydrogen will be used to power commercial transport vehicles, buses, and passenger vehicles. The H2Gen reactors, based on Utility's eXERO gas production technology, facilitate the production of hydrogen from water using the electrochemical energy present in off-gases like biogas, eliminating the need for external electricity. This innovative approach has significantly impacted the economics and logistics of clean hydrogen production, making it more feasible for industries to align with sustainability goals while ensuring business profitability.
