Hera Spa's recent announcement marks the commencement of the first nationwide introduction of a 5 percent natural gas and hydrogen blend in Castelfranco Emilia's gas distribution network by its subsidiary, Inrete Distribuzione Energia. This initiative, made possible through a strategic protocol signed with key stakeholders including the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, Mase, and the Italian Gas Committee (CIG), aims to test methane gas blends with varying hydrogen percentages to facilitate the energy transition. The trial, set to conclude on April 3 in collaboration with the Castelfranco Emilia municipal administration and several partners, targets about 40 households in the region. Utilizing the NexMeter, a specialized gas meter developed by the Hera Group, ensures accurate measurement of the gas mixture. The success of this project may lead to further trials with higher hydrogen concentrations up to 10 percent, showcasing a proactive approach towards sustainable energy solutions in the area.
