Next Hydrogen Solutions Inc. has been awarded a contract by the University of Minnesota (UMN) to deploy its latest generation electrolysis technology at the UMN West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC). This initiative, backed by the U.S. Department of Energy's ARPA-E and partners like RTI International, aims to showcase the production of ammonia from renewable energy sources to cater to emerging energy markets and existing agricultural sectors. The upcoming project will integrate technologies from various entities including Casale, RTI, and UMN, with Next Hydrogen supplying its third-generation Alkaline Water Electrolyzers known for their advancements in energy efficiency, current density, and operating pressure. These electrolyzers are designed to efficiently utilize intermittent energy sources like wind and solar, offering responsive renewable energy load following capability. The system is projected to be fully operational by 2025 and involves a diverse group of contributors such as Nutrien, GE, Nel Hydrogen, Xcel Energy, Great River Energy, and other notable organizations. Collaborators also include academic institutions like Texas Tech University and the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI).
