PacificLight Power to Construct Singapore's Largest Hydrogen-ready CCGT Facility
Key Ideas
  • PacificLight Power secured rights to build a 600MW hydrogen-ready CCGT facility in Singapore, with operations starting in January 2029.
  • The facility, designed to be future-proof, will transition to 100% hydrogen usage and contribute to Singapore's energy security and lower carbon footprint.
  • It will complement the company's existing 830MW CCGT plant and support grid stability, emphasizing the commitment to long-term decarbonisation.
  • PacificLight Power CEO expressed honor in being selected for critical projects, highlighting the integration of hydrogen-ready and battery storage technologies for a low-carbon future.
PacificLight Power has been granted the opportunity by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) to construct a 600MW hydrogen-ready Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) facility in Singapore on Jurong Island. Set to begin operations in January 2029, this facility is described as the 'largest single' H-class CCGT in Singapore. The strategic positioning on a greenfield site allows for future expansion, potential integration of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology, and the incorporation of a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS). The plant is engineered to transition from utilizing 30% hydrogen initially to 100% hydrogen in the future, emphasizing its role in enhancing energy security and reducing the carbon footprint of Singapore. PacificLight Power's commitment to long-term decarbonisation is evident through the adoption of innovative solutions aimed at improving system reliability and reducing environmental impact. The upcoming facility will complement the company's existing CCGT plant and Fast Start capacity, showcasing their dedication to sustainable power generation and grid stability. PacificLight Power's CEO expressed gratitude for being selected for these critical projects, highlighting the company's readiness to deliver the new plant safely and on schedule while paving the way for a low-carbon future.
