Sembcorp Industries and PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia have joined hands to develop a groundbreaking green hydrogen production facility in Sumatra, Indonesia. The facility, with a capacity to produce 100,000 metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually, is set to be the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. The partnership, formalized through a joint development agreement signed at the Singapore International Energy Week 2024, follows a previous joint development study agreement between the two companies. The successful completion of the initial feasibility study has paved the way for the project to move into detailed engineering and commercial structuring phases. The initiative reflects a collective vision for a sustainable energy landscape in Southeast Asia, aligning with the clean energy goals of Singapore and Indonesia. By creating a regional green hydrogen hub that connects Sumatra, the Riau Islands, and Singapore, the project aims to drive forward collaboration and innovation in the clean energy sector. Despite the significant scale and impact of the project, it is projected that the signing of the joint development agreement will not materially affect Sembcorp's financial performance for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024.
