The collaboration aims to address the need for decarbonization in the railway industry by shifting from fossil diesel to renewable fuels, particularly on challenging routes that are hard to electrify. By signing a Letter of Intent in April 2024, the two companies have laid the foundation for a comprehensive partnership focusing on the entire supply chain for green hydrogen fuel. This includes initiatives in hydrogen production, storage, distribution, refueling, and maintenance of fuel cell trains. Additionally, Smart Train Lease, a subsidiary of Siemens Mobility, now provides hydrogen trains for rent, expanding the accessibility of hydrogen-powered transportation solutions.
