The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) in Spain has taken a significant step towards decarbonizing the economy by introducing a draft order for the aid programme focused on creating large renewable hydrogen valleys or clusters. These clusters are pivotal in consolidating the hydrogen value chain, spanning production, storage, and distribution for various sectors like transport, industry, and energy. With substantial funding from NextGenEU, the initiative aims to drive the widespread production and utilization of green hydrogen and its derivatives. This move is crucial for integrating hydrogen into Spain's energy mix and advancing the decarbonization of different industrial sectors. The creation of renewable hydrogen clusters is integral to achieving the goals set by the Renewable Hydrogen Roadmap and the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC), which anticipates an 11 GW electrolysis capacity by 2030. The management of the aid programme will be overseen by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), an entity under MITECO. The deadline for objections to the proposal is Friday, June 21, 2024. This initiative forms part of the larger Strategic Project for Renewable Energy, Hydrogen, and Storage, aiming to revolutionize Spain's energy landscape by embracing green hydrogen technology.
