The US Department of Energy has announced a $1.66bn loan guarantee to Plug Power’s subsidiary, Plug Power Energy Loan Borrower, to construct up to six clean hydrogen facilities. This initiative is in line with the Biden-Harris administration's strategy to boost a clean energy economy and maintain the US's position as a leader in the global energy sector. The loan guarantee will be used to facilitate the production of clean hydrogen utilizing Plug Power’s electrolyser technology, contributing to the DOE's efforts to establish regional clean hydrogen hubs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Plug Power plans to expand its clean hydrogen facilities throughout the US, utilizing advanced electrolyser stacks manufactured in New York. The project aims to create a robust hydrogen fuel delivery network and support fuel cell-electric vehicles across various industries, ultimately cutting emissions by 84% compared to traditional hydrogen production methods. The financing provided through the DOE's Clean Energy Financing Programme will also generate construction jobs and full-time positions in each location, further enhancing the clean energy sector's workforce. Plug Power's existing hydrogen network in Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana can already produce a significant amount of liquid hydrogen daily. The expansion project not only supports the development of clean hydrogen infrastructure but also aligns with Plug Power's commitment to sustainability and innovation in the energy sector.
