Researchers from Universidade de Lisboa have assessed the strategic raw material requirements for large-scale hydrogen production in Portugal and the European Union. They have determined that while most raw materials do not pose significant threats, the scarcity of iridium could impact proton exchange membrane electrolyzers. The study emphasizes the importance of maintaining raw material reserves and efficient mining efforts. Meanwhile, Mibgas Derivatives and DH2 Energy have introduced the first renewable hydrogen auction in the Iberian market, offering opportunities for companies to acquire renewable hydrogen without usage restrictions. In another initiative, CMMZE plans to establish green hydrogen production facilities in the Middle East and North Africa, aiming for substantial annual output and engaging in discussions for long-term agreements. Additionally, Air Liquide and Limak Cement Group have made strides in using low-carbon hydrogen at the Limak plant, demonstrating advancements in integrating hydrogen into industrial processes. These developments signify positive momentum in the European hydrogen market, showcasing innovation, collaboration, and sustainability efforts.
