The British Columbia government has revealed a $900 million project focused on establishing a network of hydrogen production plants and refuelling stations to bolster the province's green initiatives. The Canada Infrastructure Bank has allocated a $337 million loan to support this venture led by hydrogen company HTEC. The project, known as H2 Gateway, is set to include the development of up to 20 hydrogen refuelling stations, with the majority to be located in B.C. and the rest in Alberta. The stations will be supplied by three new hydrogen production facilities to be situated in Burnaby, Nanaimo, and Prince George. Additionally, a plant in North Vancouver will be built to liquefy 15 tonnes of byproduct hydrogen. This infrastructure project is not only aimed at creating around 300 job opportunities but also at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The collaborative efforts of the federal Crown corporation, the B.C. government, and HTEC highlight a positive step towards environmental sustainability and economic growth in the region.
