Chile is making significant strides in boosting its economy and advancing green hydrogen development through electrolyzer production initiatives. The state development agency Corfo has granted US$25.6mn to three business consortiums to establish electrolyzer manufacturing and assembly facilities worth over US$50mn. These projects, located in the Biobío region and Santiago, will utilize Chile's abundant clean energy resources to power electrolyzers for green hydrogen production. The hydrogen produced will be used in various applications and can be combined with nitrogen or recycled CO2 to create green ammonia and e-fuels. Chile sees green hydrogen as a key player in decarbonization efforts and as a new export opportunity. The country aims to tackle challenges in project permitting, cost reduction, and securing offtakers to accelerate the growth of the green hydrogen industry. With around 70 green hydrogen projects in development, Chile foresees a shift towards a greener energy landscape.
