MAIRE S.p.A. in Milan, in collaboration with KT -Kinetics Technology and NEXTCHEM, has secured a project to establish a hydrogen production unit (HPU) in Johor, Malaysia. The project, awarded by Pengerang Biorefinery Sdn. Bhd., aims to set up the HPU within the Pengerang Integrated Complex to produce essential hydrogen for the biorefinery's conversion processes. This initiative is aligned with the goal to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), and bio-naphtha from raw materials like used vegetable oils and animal fats. The contract, valued at USD 125 million, involves licensing, as well as engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) services. The HPU is expected to generate approximately 38,000 normal metric cubes per hour of hydrogen and process 650,000 tons per year of raw materials. The project focuses on utilizing NEXTCHEM's NX Reform™ technology, known for its efficiency in producing low-carbon hydrogen while emphasizing circularity and reducing emissions.
