John Cockerill and Viettel Group Partner for Vietnam-Based Electrolyzer Manufacturing for Green Hydrogen
Key Ideas
- John Cockerill and Viettel Group signed an MoU to explore developing a manufacturing facility in Vietnam for alkaline water electrolyzers for green hydrogen production.
- The collaboration aims to supply both the domestic market and international markets in the Asia-Pacific region with green hydrogen.
- Parties will also explore cooperation in other energy transition solutions like cooling towers, molten salts, and nuclear energy for both domestic and export markets.
- This partnership aligns with Vietnam's energy transition objectives and signifies a step towards sustainable energy production.
Belgian technology company John Cockerill and Vietnam's conglomerate Viettel Group have entered into a memorandum of understanding to investigate the establishment of a manufacturing facility in Vietnam for pressurized alkaline water electrolyzers dedicated to green hydrogen production. The collaboration intends to assess the feasibility of manufacturing equipment locally to supply both the domestic and international markets, especially focusing on the Asia-Pacific region. Apart from electrolyzer manufacturing, the partnership will explore opportunities in various energy transition solutions such as cooling towers, molten salts, and nuclear energy for potential exports.
The initiative is in line with Vietnam's energy transition goals, showcasing a joint effort by the two companies to contribute to sustainable energy practices. Additionally, earlier in late 2024, green energy firm ETFuels selected John Cockerill and Johnson Matthey as strategic partners for an e-methanol project in Texas, where John Cockerill will provide electrolyzer units for a green hydrogen facility. This signifies a significant step towards green energy adoption and emphasizes the growing importance of hydrogen in the global energy landscape.
