Nel to Supply Electrolyzer Equipment for Samsung's Pink Hydrogen Production Plant
Key Ideas
  • Nel secures a 5 million euros contract to provide 10 megawatts of alkaline electrolyzer equipment to Samsung C&T.
  • The equipment will be used in a pink hydrogen production plant powered by nuclear energy, aiming to utilize excess nuclear power for hydrogen production.
  • The project is expected to increase overall energy efficiency by using excess nuclear energy during periods of oversupply.
  • This initiative highlights the growing interest in hydrogen production using renewable sources and increasing energy efficiency in industrial processes.
Norwegian hydrogen company Nel has landed a contract worth approximately 5 million euros to supply 10 megawatts of alkaline electrolyzer equipment to Samsung C&T. This equipment is destined for a pink hydrogen production plant owned by Samsung, which produces hydrogen through water electrolysis powered by nuclear energy. The primary goal of this project is to generate hydrogen from excess nuclear power, thereby utilizing energy that would otherwise go to waste during periods of oversupply. By doing so, the overall energy efficiency is expected to increase significantly. This partnership exemplifies the trend towards utilizing renewable energy sources like nuclear power for hydrogen production to enhance energy efficiency in various industrial applications.
