Siemens Energy has been awarded a contract to provide a 100 MW PEM electrolyzer for the Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub (HGHH). The PEM technology allows for the efficient production of green hydrogen by using renewable energy sources to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The project, led by the HGHH consortium, aims to produce approximately 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. The construction of the electrolyzers will commence in 2022, with full operation scheduled for 2027. Siemens Energy's new giga factory in Berlin will manufacture the essential stacks for the electrolyzers, ensuring quality and reliability. Additionally, a long-term partnership agreement has been established for maintenance services to guarantee the optimal performance and longevity of the electrolyzer units. Key members of the consortium, including Christoph Cosler and Holger Matthiesen, have expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its importance in the transition towards sustainable energy practices in Hamburg. The utilization of PEM technology, coupled with strategic partnerships and efficient service networks, is expected to enhance the overall efficiency and availability of the Hamburg hydrogen site, contributing to the region's green energy objectives.
