Ukraine, under the InnovateUkraine program supported by the UK's Foreign Affairs Ministry, is gearing up to enhance its green hydrogen production by a significant 8 gigawatts. Voden Ukrainy LLC, also known as Hydrogen of Ukraine, is leading this initiative with plans to establish a production facility in the southern parts of the Odesa region through its H2U strategy. The UK has committed to funding 70% of the project's comprehensive study costs for construction feasibility, with the rest to be covered by the Ukrainian enterprise. This crucial study will assess various essential infrastructures, including a 120 MW solar power station, an 80 MW wind farm, a hydrogen conduit connecting to the European Union markets, and a 100 MW electrolyzer. The initial phase of the facility aims to produce up to 8,000 tons of hydrogen annually, with future expansions planned to include oxygen and methanol manufacturing. The project timeline indicates that plant construction is expected to begin within two years following the research phase. Financial estimates suggest that the venture may necessitate an investment ranging between €300-400 million. This partnership not only highlights a significant boost in green hydrogen production for Ukraine but also showcases a collaborative effort towards sustainable energy practices and economic development.
