A letter addressed to Ursula von der Leyen stresses the significance of retaining electrolyzer manufacturing in Europe to maintain competitiveness, strategic autonomy, and economic sustainability. With the global market for environmental technologies booming, reaching €184 billion in 2023 and projected to triple by the end of the decade, the group advocates for 'Made in Europe' solutions. While Europe has emerged as a global leader in electrolyzer manufacturing due to investments in renewable hydrogen, the rising dominance of China, fueled by state subsidies, poses a challenge. To address the uneven playing field, the companies propose introducing resilience criteria in hydrogen auctions to support local businesses. The call for action underlines the urgency of protecting European manufacturing capabilities and ensuring a level playing field in the green hydrogen sector.
