Wood Named Engineering Partner for Zeevonk Hydrogen Project in Rotterdam
Key Ideas
  • Wood has been awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) scope for the Zeevonk hydrogen facility in Rotterdam, powered by offshore wind and solar energy.
  • The project, a joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, aims to contribute to Europe's target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
  • The hydrogen plant will feed into the Hydrogen Network Rotterdam, marking a significant step in establishing the Dutch hydrogen infrastructure in the Port of Rotterdam.
  • This initiative further solidifies Wood's commitment to delivering sustainable solutions and supporting the global transition to low-emission energy sources.
Wood, a global consulting and engineering firm, has been selected to provide front-end engineering design (FEED) services for the Zeevonk hydrogen facility in Rotterdam, Netherlands. This project, a collaboration between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, will utilize offshore wind and floating offshore solar to power the hydrogen plant. The facility is crucial in Vattenfall's pursuit of net-zero emissions and aligns with Europe's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The produced hydrogen will be transported through a pipeline to the Hydrogen Network Rotterdam, the initial phase of the new Dutch hydrogen infrastructure based in the significant energy hub of the Port of Rotterdam. Gerry Traynor from Wood expressed excitement over the opportunity to contribute expertise in green hydrogen projects to advance the global energy transition. Claus Vissing-Jørgensen, Project Director at Zeevonk, highlighted the significance of the FEED award in propelling forward their large-scale hydrogen plant plans. Wood's involvement in this project showcases their dedication to delivering sustainable solutions and promoting low-carbon energy sources on a global scale, further demonstrated by their engagement in other transformative projects with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
