The International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) in India has been instrumental in advancing research and development in the automotive sector. With 27 innovative technologies, 9 patents/ IPRs, and 2 copyrights/ design registrations, ICAT showcases a commitment to excellence. Through collaborations with esteemed organizations and academia, ICAT fosters a robust R&D ecosystem, evident from its 40 MoUs and support for startups through the ICAT incubation center. The Indian government's initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Automobile and Auto Component Industry, Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars, FAME India Scheme Phase-II, and PM E-DRIVE Scheme aim to attract foreign investment and boost manufacturing capabilities in electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen fuel cells. Additionally, the National Green Hydrogen Mission under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy focuses on making India a global hub for green hydrogen production and usage. The Mission includes pilot projects for green hydrogen deployment in transport, with support for fuel cell development. Overall, these efforts reflect a positive sentiment towards advancing automotive innovation and sustainability in India.
