Ballard Power Systems has announced a significant purchase order to provide 200 fuel cell engines to New Flyer, a major bus and coach manufacturer. This order, part of a long-term supply agreement, represents a total power capacity of approximately 20 MW and is a substantial increase from the initial order of 100 engines. The engines are set to be delivered in 2025 and will be utilized to power New Flyer's Xcelsior CHARGE FC™ hydrogen fuel cell buses, which will be deployed in multiple states across the US. Both companies, Ballard and New Flyer, have expressed enthusiasm about their partnership and the advancement of zero-emission solutions in the transit sector. David White, from NFI, highlighted the importance of fuel cell technology in achieving emission reduction goals, while David Mucciacciaro, Ballard's Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized New Flyer's confidence in the performance of Ballard's fuel cell engines. The market interest in hydrogen fuel cell buses is growing due to their long range, rapid refueling times, performance in various weather conditions, and high availability. Ballard Power Systems aims to deliver sustainable fuel cell power for various mobility applications, contributing to the electrification of buses, trucks, trains, vessels, and stationary power systems.
