French start-up Beyond Aero has successfully raised $20 million in funding to further develop its One aircraft, which is set to become the first electric business jet powered by hydrogen propulsion in the market by 2030. This innovative aircraft, spanning 67 feet, will have the capacity for eight passengers, an 800-nautical-mile range, and a cruise speed of approximately 357 mph. The aircraft's power source is a fuel cell that uses hydrogen and oxygen, emitting only water as a byproduct. Hydrogen fuel cells are recognized for their sustainability, as they do not produce greenhouse gases or burn fuel. Beyond Aero's fuel-cell system is highlighted as 12 times more efficient than battery-powered planes, offering a range five times greater than battery-operated aircraft. To address challenges related to the weight of hydrogen storage, the start-up sought inspiration from Formula 1 and the auto industry to redesign the One aircraft. Beyond Aero's recent funding success, totaling $44 million with investments from notable figures such as Nate Blecharczyk and Arash Ferdowsi, underlines the growing enthusiasm for hydrogen-powered aviation. The company's CEO, Eloa Guillotin, expressed strong confidence in the project's progress, emphasizing the inevitability of its success.
