CamMotive, an e-powertrain development consultancy, has set up a new hydrogen fuel cell testing and development facility in Cambridge, UK. This test site is specifically designed to enhance the viability of hydrogen fuel cell technologies and drive innovation in clean energy markets. As a part of a consortium led by Ford, CamMotive is working on creating prototype hydrogen fuel cell versions of electric E-Transit commercial vehicles as part of the three-year FCVGen2.0 project. The testing site in Cambridge will play a crucial role in evaluating and optimizing next-generation hydrogen fuel cell technologies for transportation and stationary power uses. By testing hydrogen fuel cell systems up to 150kW with potential to expand further, CamMotive aims to analyze key metrics like electrical power output, thermal output, hydrogen usage, and emissions for efficiency and safety enhancements. The company plans to utilize data from these tests to improve component behavior and overall system performance. The newly launched facility is part of the company's strategy to support and advance hydrogen technologies and is expected to expand its infrastructure to cater to the needs of the clean energy market. CamMotive envisions that the test environment in Cambridge will not only benefit the Ford E-Transit project but also serve the wider hydrogen fuel cell market in the UK and globally.
