Former first lady Monica Geingos of Namibia has called for the early implementation of local content strategies in the green hydrogen and oil sectors to ensure that the country's citizens benefit from these emerging industries. Geingos emphasized the need for support for entrepreneurs and collaboration with international partners to foster the growth of these industries. Hyphen Hydrogen Energy's Toni Beukes also highlighted the importance of setting flexible local content targets and receiving government support for the development of the green hydrogen sector. Various African representatives, including those from South Africa, Tanzania, and Nigeria, discussed the challenges and opportunities in transitioning to cleaner energy sources like green hydrogen. They emphasized the need for investments in skills development, infrastructure, and financial resources to drive this transition. The discussions at the Global Africa Hydrogen Summit revealed a collective commitment to leveraging renewable energy sources for social development and economic growth across the African continent.
