Norwegian state-owned Enova has allocated NOK 300 million in innovation funding to Maris Fiducia Norway AS, with HAV Hydrogen and Norwegian Hydrogen as subcontractors, for the development, construction, and operation of five hydrogen-powered dry-bulk vessels. The grant falls under Enova's 'hydrogen in vessels' program, aimed at fostering market change by supporting hydrogen usage in vessels and advancing zero-emission vessel technologies. Maris Fiducia Norway, a subsidiary of Dutch shipowner Maris Fiducia, will oversee the vessels' management. The vessels, with a capacity of 6,000 dwt, are designed by Dutch firm Ankerbeer for optimal efficiency and minimal fuel consumption. They will utilize a dual fuel hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE) along with fuel cells for auxiliary power. Additionally, the vessels will be chartered by Schulte & Bruns for a zero-emission time charter, showcasing the viability of hydrogen technology in maritime operations.
