The EU Innovation Fund has recently granted a substantial allocation of €4.8 billion to 85 innovative hydrogen projects, representing the largest funding initiative since its establishment in 2020. This significant investment, totaling €12 billion in overall support, highlights the EU's commitment to advancing decarbonisation goals. Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, CEO of Hydrogen Europe, expressed enthusiasm for the European Commission's dedication to supporting hydrogen technologies, emphasizing the pivotal role they play in the clean energy transition. The projects funded cover a wide range of hydrogen technologies, including PEM electrolysers, fuel cells, and hydrogen storage, with a total aim of generating 9.3 GW of electrolyser capacity and 61 kilotonnes of RFNBO hydrogen annually. These initiatives will contribute significantly to enhancing Europe's clean energy infrastructure and boosting the competitiveness of the clean tech industry. The selected projects are spread across various European countries, with Belgium, Germany, Spain, and France among the recipients. The funding allocation underlines the growing importance of hydrogen in achieving sustainable energy goals and reducing carbon emissions.
