Extreme H, the world's first hydrogen off-road racing championship, has unveiled the Pioneer 25, a groundbreaking hydrogen racing car set to debut at Extreme E's Hydro X Prix in Scotland. This move marks a shift from battery-electric to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles for Extreme E, now evolving into Extreme H. The Pioneer 25 is based on the Odyssey 21 from Extreme E, featuring a Symbio-made 75 kW hydrogen fuel cell, a 36 kWh battery pack from Fortescue, and two 200 kW electric motors. With 400 kW of system power, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 kph. It boasts a unique design with double wishbone suspension and the driving seat centrally positioned in the single-seater vehicle. The Extreme H championship, starting in April 2025, will consist of 10 rounds in five locations, aiming to showcase the potential of hydrogen fuel cells in motorsport. Founder Alejandro Agag emphasizes the importance of pioneering sustainable motorsport with hydrogen technology, highlighting the opportunity to reduce carbon footprint and promote clean energy solutions. Teams participating in the championship will work with standardized parts but have some flexibility in the design of bodywork, enhancing the competitive aspect of the races. Extreme H's innovative approach to off-road racing with hydrogen technology signifies a significant step towards a more sustainable future in motorsport.
