FuelCell Energy, Inc. and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd (KHNP) have announced a partnership to pursue hydrogen energy business initiatives in South Korea. The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop advanced energy solutions using FuelCell Energy's solid oxide electrolysis hydrogen platform and KHNP's nuclear power plants. This collaboration aims to produce lower cost, domestic clean hydrogen by combining South Korea's clean energy sources with FuelCell Energy's electrolyzer platform. FuelCell Energy, known for its expertise in solid oxide electrolysis fuel cell technology, will bring its experience to the partnership. The company's solid oxide electrolyzer cell can produce hydrogen at high electrical efficiency, reaching up to 100% efficiency with the use of excess heat. This technology enables the production of dry hydrogen from electricity and cold water without the need for external heat input. The hydrogen produced through electrolysis can be stored long term and used in various sectors, including transportation and agriculture.
