HDF Energy, also known as Hydrogène de France, a French manufacturer of high-power fuel cells and developer of large-scale hydrogen infrastructure, has secured up to EUR 172 million in public funding for its industrial project. The European Commission has approved French financial support for this initiative under the Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI). The grant will facilitate the development and industrialization of high-power hydrogen fuel cells at HDF Energy's plant near Bordeaux. The funding is part of the IPCEI 'Hy2Move,' which aims to support projects in the hydrogen sector. This investment will focus on the development of multi-megawatt fuel cells for heavy maritime and rail mobility, as well as electricity production for public power grids. The project, to be implemented at HDF Energy's plant in Blanquefort, near Bordeaux, will involve the development and industrialization of fuel cells designed to meet market demands for efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness. The industrial site will house a specialized high-power fuel cell test platform that will benefit industrial partners and European research centers. This initiative not only advances HDF Energy's technological expertise but also contributes to regional growth, employment, and the reindustrialization of the area. HDF Energy's fuel cells are intended to revolutionize environmentally friendly transport by replacing diesel engines in freight locomotives with hydrogen-powered propulsion systems. They also offer sustainable solutions for auxiliary power and ship propulsion, as well as providing electricity to ships at berth. The company's Deputy CEO and VP Industry expressed gratitude for the support from the European Commission and the French State, emphasizing the crucial role this funding plays in HDF Energy's mission to decarbonize heavy maritime and rail mobility with hydrogen. HDF Energy, a key player in the hydrogen industry, is committed to developing large-scale hydrogen infrastructure and advanced fuel cell technology. The company's fuel cells contribute to decarbonization efforts in power generation, heavy maritime and rail mobility sectors, supporting the transition to renewable energy sources. With a diverse team of over 150 hydrogen experts and a portfolio of projects valued at over €5 billion, HDF Energy is positioned as a leader in driving sustainable innovations in the hydrogen sector.
