Indian Railways is preparing to launch the country's first hydrogen-powered train, designed by the Research, Design, and Standard Organisation (RDSO). The train, with 8 passenger coaches capable of carrying 2,638 passengers on a single trip, will undergo a trial run between Haryana's Jind and Sonipat railway stations. The RDSO-developed design emphasizes modern utility and sustainability, with the goal of aligning with the vision of sustainable energy. The train's design was recently unveiled at the International Innovative Rail Expo held in Lucknow, showcasing India's leap towards sustainable rail transport. The hydrogen-powered train project signifies a major achievement for India, as it joins a select group of countries advancing in the use of hydrogen as fuel for trains. While the model displayed at the expo featured 'Namo Green Rail,' the official name will be decided at the time of launch. The integration work for the train is ongoing at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. Globally, hydrogen-powered trains are an innovative solution for eco-friendly rail transport, with countries like Germany and China also exploring this technology.
