ITS, formerly the K-Line terminal in Long Beach, has been purchasing container handling equipment from Mitsui PACECO since it came under the majority ownership of Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets in 2020. Following their previous acquisitions, ITS has ordered eight Mitsui PAECO hybrid RTGs, known as 'Near Zero Emission Hybrid Transtainers', which feature a small diesel genset rechargeable battery pack. These cranes are designed to eventually transition to zero emissions machines through the replacement of the diesel genset with hydrogen fuel cells. Mitsui PACECO has also been demonstrating a zero emissions hybrid RTG with a fuel cell at the Port of Los Angeles. The company stated that the new cranes for ITS were their first US order post the US government's focus on cybersecurity and managing risks related to Chinese-made cranes at critical ports. While Mitsui PACECO plans to assemble BABA compliant cranes in the US, it is unclear if these new RTGs for ITS will be manufactured in Japan or the US. Mitsui PACECO emphasized their commitment to the Clean Air Action Plan, aiming for zero emissions cargo handling equipment at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach by 2030. They expressed dedication to providing environmentally-friendly cranes and supporting customer operations while seeking business expansion in the US market.
