The Severn Valley Railway is set to host a themed weekend event titled 'Trains through the Ages' on July 5 and 6. The event will feature a contrast of eras in rail travel with the iconic LNER Peppercorn Class A1 No 60163 'Tornado' and the cutting-edge HydroFLEX, the UK's first hydrogen-ready passenger train. 'Tornado', which recently returned to service, will pull the SVR's vintage LNER teak carriages dating back to 1922. On the other end of the spectrum, HydroFLEX, developed by Porterbrook, showcases the latest in railway technology by using hydrogen fuel stored in high-pressure tanks to generate clean electricity through fuel cells. The SVR's managing director expressed excitement over the inclusion of both 'Tornado' and HydroFLEX at the event, highlighting the blend of history and innovation. The event will also feature displays of locomotives from various periods, modern railway traction, and the unique 'Inspiration' exhibition train promoting the railway's heritage and future. Additionally, the SVR intends to inspire the next generation by welcoming school children to learn about railway history and technology. Free tickets for 'Inspiration' can be pre-booked to visit between June 27 and July 6, coinciding with the Railway 200 celebration.
