The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India has initiated a call for proposals from eligible entities to establish Centers of Excellence (CoEs) under the National Green Hydrogen Mission's R&D Scheme. Launched on January 4, 2023, with a substantial budget of INR 19,744 crore, the National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to transform India into a Global Hub for Green Hydrogen production, usage, and export, with a specific allocation of INR 400 crores for advancing R&D activities in the sector.
The R&D Scheme focuses on scaling up efforts to promote indigenous technology development for broader deployment of Green Hydrogen Technology across the country in a cost-effective manner. The proposed CoEs will serve as vital hubs for advanced research, skill development, information dissemination, and industry collaboration within the Green Hydrogen sector. These centers are set to play a crucial role in fostering collaborations between stakeholders, implementing cutting-edge research projects, and developing new products across the Green Hydrogen value chain.
The program aims to accelerate the scaling of technologies in the intermediate development stage and support the demonstration of pilot projects that offer innovative solutions in Green Hydrogen. Additionally, it emphasizes enhancing workforce skills through technical training, increasing public awareness, and promoting the adoption of clean hydrogen solutions. The CoEs are intended to act as knowledge partners for industries and stakeholders involved in the Green Hydrogen ecosystem. Eligible entities for project proposals include academic institutions, R&D institutions, government institutions, PSUs, private research institutions, and industries with adequate experience, infrastructure, and capabilities to contribute to the Green Hydrogen ecosystem. The selected entities can receive up to 50 percent financial support for their project proposals, with the remaining costs to be covered by the successful bidders.
