Piston Automotive, a subsidiary of the automotive supplier Piston Group, is set to establish production operations in Detroit, Michigan, with a significant investment of up to $55 million. The project, expected to create 144 jobs, entails leasing and renovating 200,000 square feet of space at a recently built warehouse on Ralston Street to manufacture hydrogen fuel cells. Maureen Donohue Krauss, President and CEO of the Detroit Regional Partnership, highlighted the importance of hydrogen fuel cell systems in the mobility sector, emphasizing their growth potential. The initiative, part of the Global Epicenter of Mobility program, aims to drive economic growth and position Detroit at the forefront of advanced mobility technologies. Supported by a $1.5 million performance-based Michigan Business Development Program, the project demonstrates the commitment to zero-emission vehicle technology. Kevin Johnson, President and CEO of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, emphasized the significance of the investment in EV manufacturing for the region, creating career opportunities and fostering innovation. Piston Automotive, known for its expertise in vehicle systems, including powertrain and chassis, currently operates in multiple states. Khalil Rahal, Director of Economic Development at DTE Energy, praised the collaboration with Piston Group, highlighting the role of Michigan-made energy in powering the growth of sustainable technologies.
