Plug Power Inc., a global leader in hydrogen solutions, has completed the deployment of 13 hydrogen refueling stations (HRS) across Europe in the last two years. These stations support material handling and mobility applications in countries like the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. The HRS installations are in the commissioning phase, with many already operational and the rest expected to be fully operational by summer. The stations cater to Plug's European customer base, which includes companies like Amazon, ASDA, Lidl, and more, as well as Plug's own facilities and HYVIA locations. The largest site is anticipated to consume close to half a ton of hydrogen per day.
Plug's HRS solutions are comprehensive, covering the building of stations and the delivery of hydrogen from Plug-owned generators. By converting lead acid battery-powered equipment to hydrogen fuel cell-powered, customers are able to achieve efficiency gains and meet their corporate sustainability goals. The sites often use green hydrogen, further contributing to environmental objectives.
Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug, highlighted the importance of the growing demand for hydrogen refueling stations in the European market and emphasized the company's experience in this sector. Plug's efficiency is demonstrated by reducing the time-to-market for a refueling station from 18 months to 6 months, showcasing their expertise in delivering hydrogen supply.
Plug Power's initiatives align with its goal of creating a green hydrogen ecosystem, including production, storage, and delivery for various applications. With plans for a green hydrogen highway across North America and Europe, Plug is actively working towards commercial operation of multiple green hydrogen production plants by the end of 2028. The company's focus on decarbonizing the economy through hydrogen technology is evident in its extensive deployment of fuel cell systems and fueling stations worldwide.
