Millions of Bangladeshis are currently suffering from the impacts of a scorching heatwave attributed to climate change. Despite Bangladesh's low contribution to global carbon emissions, the country faces significant challenges such as internal climate migration and GDP loss due to weather disasters. The government's Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan (MCPP) aims to address these challenges by increasing renewable energy usage and energy efficiency measures to build a sustainable economy. The Bangladesh Climate Transparency Report 2020 highlights the need for improved infrastructure to withstand disasters and decrease emissions in sectors like electricity, industry, and transport. Fossil fuels still dominate the energy mix, but there is a growing focus on renewables to reduce carbon intensity. The deployment of sustainable technology, including renewable energy sources like geothermal, wind, solar, and hydro, can help reduce emissions and promote energy-efficient practices. In the transportation sector, sustainable technology such as electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen fuel cells can significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels and air pollution. Businesses in Bangladesh are encouraged to invest in sustainable technologies and align with the MCPP targets to combat climate change effectively. Private sector involvement is crucial in driving innovations, scaling solutions, and creating awareness. Collaboration between government, private sector, and citizens is essential to achieve sustainable infrastructure and climate resilience in Bangladesh for a better future.
