Toyota Motor Corporation has announced the development of its third-generation fuel cell system tailored for the commercial sector, showcasing improvements in performance, cost efficiency, and versatility. This new system, set to be launched from 2026 in markets such as Japan, Europe, North America, and China, will not only cater to passenger vehicles but also be extended to heavy-duty commercial use. Toyota's commitment to hydrogen as a key element in achieving carbon neutrality is highlighted by the successful deployment of over 28,000 Mirai fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) across 30 countries. The company has also supplied more than 2,700 FC systems for buses, railroads, power generators, and other applications globally. Toyota's collaboration with partners in Tokyo and Fukushima prefectures in Japan aims to foster a hydrogen society by implementing these systems in the commercial sector. The third-gen FC system, to be unveiled at the H2 & FC Expo in Tokyo, is the result of customer feedback and extensive testing, offering enhanced fuel efficiency for passenger vehicles and durability matching diesel engines for heavy-duty use. Toyota emphasizes the system's durability, efficiency, and adaptability, making it suitable for various vehicles and applications including stationary generators, rail, and marine transport.
