Toyota's Woven City project, spearheaded by Akio Toyoda, is transitioning from phase one to phase two, with residents beginning to move in. The city aims to accommodate 2,000 residents, creating a diverse community comprising employees, retirees, entrepreneurs, scientists, and academics. As part of the focus on future mobility and innovation, Woven City features unique concepts such as Toyota chair race cars for speed experiences, safety drones for enhanced security, and even robotic companionship. Additionally, the city plans to introduce flying cars for quick and traffic-free travel, thanks to a recent partnership with air taxi startup Joby. Situated at the base of Mt. Fuji, Woven City spans 175 acres and is set to be a fully connected ecosystem powered by hydrogen fuel cells. It serves as a test course for mobility where inventors can collaborate on innovative solutions for societal challenges. The project also includes plans to invite external startups, entrepreneurs, universities, and research institutions through an accelerator program starting in the summer of 2025. With phase one expected to house 360 residents and subsequent phases aiming for a total of 2,000 residents, Woven City is on track for an official launch in the fall of 2025. The project represents a positive outlook on the future of urban development, sustainability, and technology, offering a platform for collaborative innovation and growth.
