SWITCH Maritime, a prominent developer of zero-emission maritime vessels, was awarded a Certificate of Inspection (COI) for their flagship hydrogen ferry 'Sea Change' by the US Coast Guard in San Francisco. This recognition symbolizes a significant achievement in the maritime industry, underscoring the practicality of carbon-neutral ships. The Sea Change, powered by hydrogen fuel cells, can operate as a 100% zero-emission public ferry, demonstrating its capability to cover transit distances of up to 300 nm at speeds of 15 knots. Following the COI presentation, the vessel will begin commercial operations under the supervision of the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority. The success of the Sea Change is attributed to a collaborative effort involving public and private entities like the Golden State Warriors, United, and the California Air Resources Board. SWITCH Maritime aims to introduce more hydrogen-powered ferries and advance the adoption of net-zero vessels in the maritime sector, offering operators flexible solutions to comply with emissions regulations and transition to carbon-neutral fleets.
