Watson Farley & Williams supported Viking Ocean Cruises in the delivery process of the 'Viking Vela' from Fincantieri's shipyard in Ancona, Italy. This new addition, the 11th from Fincantieri, is built with modern safety features and efficient engines to reduce exhaust emissions, meeting stringent environmental regulations. Viking's vision includes a project for a partial hybrid propulsion system utilizing liquid hydrogen and fuel cells, paving the way for zero-emission operations in environmentally sensitive locations like the Norwegian fjords. The ship, 'Viking Vela', is future-proofed for technology upgrades, allowing for the integration of this eco-friendly system once available. With a classification as a small cruise ship, it has a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons, 499 staterooms, and a guest capacity of 998. The WFW Italy Maritime team, led by Partner Michele Autuori and Associate Sergio Napolitano, played a key role in advising Viking on this environmentally conscious delivery.
