VINSSEN Co., Ltd., a maritime decarbonization technology specialist in Seoul, South Korea, recently held a ship construction kick-off ceremony for a groundbreaking project. The company marked the beginning of hull construction for a 17.4m leisure boat powered by hydrogen fuel cells and high-voltage batteries. This innovative vessel, with a capacity of up to 10 passengers and a maximum speed of 20 knots, is set to be a pioneer in Korea's maritime industry. The design has already received approval from the Korea Marine Traffic Safety Authority (KOMSA), solidifying its position as the first leisure boat of its kind in the country. The project, titled 'Demonstration of the Charging and Operation of a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powered Boat,' is a collaborative effort involving partners like JNTP, KOMERI, and KITECH. These organizations will provide support in various aspects, including technical execution, hull stability assessment, and welding technology. Through this initiative, VINSSEN aims to showcase the viability of hydrogen fuel cell technology in maritime settings and drive the adoption of sustainable solutions. VINSSEN's CEO, Chil Han LEE, emphasized the significance of the project in moving towards carbon neutrality and enhancing the environmental impact of Korea's maritime sector. He expressed a commitment to accelerating the development of safe and efficient eco-friendly maritime technologies. The company plans to construct additional hydrogen fuel cell leisure boats during the demonstration phase, supported by local authorities in Jeollanam-do and Yeongam-gun. Furthermore, VINSSEN will establish a hydrogen charging station and ensure a safe testing environment for these innovative vessels. Ultimately, the project aims to promote the use of hydrogen power not only in Korea but also globally, contributing to a more sustainable future in the maritime industry.
